Drink of Choice

29 Sep

Now that my Favorite drink of the summer is gone until next year, Sam Adams Summer Ale, I was on a mission to find something new .

I am not much of a drinker, so I do not experiment much with random beers or mixed drinks.  I did however take the waitress’s suggestion to an  Angry Orchard Hard Cider.

I was very pleasantly surprised how delicious this drink was. It does not taste like an alcoholic beverage at all, which could be dangerous. It is a very light apple cider gone wild! (It contains 5% alcohol)

I am not sure how many of these you can drink in a row, it may just be a one bottle at a time, but I will be heading to the store this evening to pick up a a six pack!

As I explored the website I noticed that there are a total of three different flavors. Apple Ginger, Traditional, and Apple Cider. I highly recommend giving this drink a try!

Have you tried this drink yet?

Product Review – Contigo

28 Sep

I have a rather large collection of coffee mugs. I am to the point of throwing them all out and starting over. Some last long enough for a 10 minute car ride. Some have flown off the roof of my car. Some are missing handles and one has a small leak on the bottom. I think it is dishwasher dripping out.

My world changed last Christmas when I received a Contigo. I give it 4 out of 4 stars!

Pros: The Contigo will keep your coffee warm until lunch. I have literally taken a sip at noon before and it was still warm. The website says it keeps warm for 4 hours and can keep a drink cold for up to 12 hours.

I have flipped the container upside down, twirled it on my desk, stood it on its head and a drop never escaped! It has a autoseal button that keeps it 100% spill proof!

It has a great shape and comes in several colors.

Cons: Cleaning the top mouth piece sometimes can be a challenge. I always give it a good scrub at night, but I can’t seem to get my lip gloss off from the night before. Also may need a little cleaning brush to get into the small sipping spout.

Cost: I did not purchase my mug but the price is pretty reasonable. It it around $20.

Important tips: Do not microwave or freeze. Dishwasher safe. Do not overfill.

Hope you find this review helpful.

You live in Michigan when …

27 Sep

MICHIGAN… according to Jeff Foxworthy:

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May, you may live in Michigan.

If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don’t even work there, you may live in Michigan.

If you’ve worn shorts and a jacket at the same time, you may live in Michigan.

If you’ve had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Michigan.

If “vacation” means going anywhere North of Grand Rapids for the weekend, you may live in Michigan.

If you measure distance in hours, you may live in Michigan.

If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you may live in Michigan.

If you have switched from ‘heat’ to ‘A/C’ in the same day and back again, you may live in Michigan.

If you can drive 75 mph through 2 fee…t of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you may live in Michigan.

If you install security lights on your house and garage, but leave both doors unlocked, you may live in Michigan.

If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in Michigan.

If you design your kid’s Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you may live in Michigan.

If the speed limit on the highway is 70 mph -you’re going 80 and everybody is passing you, you may live in Michigan.

If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you may live in Michigan.

If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction, you may live in Michigan.

If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car, you may live in Michigan.

If you find 10 degrees “a little chilly”, you may live in Michigan.

If you actually understand these jokes, repost this so all of your Michigan friends and others can see, you definitely do live – or have lived – in Michigan

Pretty Funny and TRUE!

End of Summer – Houghton Lake, MI

Here is another painting my mother did for a friend. This is a swing up at my grandmother’s house that over looks Houghton Lake, Mi. We have had many amazing memories up at the Lake. This picture has captured every memory from every summer for that last 20 years!

House Hunting

25 Sep

From November to April we were house hunting. During the process we looked at a lot of cool houses in all different types of neighborhoods and cities in our area. We put in two different offers, which were not accepted due to people coming with all cash. We did not get discouraged. In late April we went to see a house in a subdivision that was a ranch style. We had not been interested in either of these two situations before and I was not very excited to check it out. Little to our surprise we both fell in love, instantly.

Long story short – the previous owners moved out end of July and we started our renovations middle of August.  As the transformations start I will share all of our very unique industrial ideas!! Our new home is going to be amazing!!

Overall our house buying experience was awesome. We had a wonderful realtor who was more than available and we found our dream home with out too much heartbreak along the way.

What was your last house buying experience like?

I needed to cook up the 5 chicken breast my husband brought home this past weekend for grilling.

I called my grandmother for a recipe for any ideas. My mother who is visiting her in Florida jumped on the phone with a tasty dish she had just found in the newspaper.

I am bringing this dish back for dinner tonight! I am craving the Chiles for some reason!!

Crab Dinner

24 Sep

While cruising through Kroger looking for dinner I can across a sale on “fresh” frozen crab legs. For some reason it really caught my eye and I pulled the cart over to see what this sale was all about.

It looked really good, but I have never cooked crab legs at home or had any idea of how to go about it. SO – I bought them anyways! It was a large package with about 5-6 sections of legs. (Is that what they are called?)

I did a little Googling of how to prepare these things and it ended up being really simple! I boiled a large pot of water, sprinkled in some salt and placed the legs in for about seven minutes.

I also Googled what is a good side to serve with crab legs. Everywhere I read said the simpler the better.  I sauteed some spinach and added parmesan cheese with a little salt. I also melted some butter and added a little garlic salt for taste.

As I was setting the dinner table I remembered that we received a cracker set at our wedding. Since this was the first time I had attempted to cook crab legs I had no idea where they were. After searching several cupboards I finally found them!

We had a lovely time messing with the crab legs. As my husband pulled his apart he would eat them, where I would pull them apart and put them in a pile to save until the end. As my pile of crab meat grew my husbands eyes got bigger and bigger. “I didn’t pick the right legs.” I had to explain that I was saving my until the end which made it look like a lot.

So next time we cook crab legs we are going to compile all the meat onto one plate and then divide it up. ;)

Now that I am newly into the cooking crab leg world, do you have a secret tips or pointers to make the next pot every better?

Top 10 – in your purse!

21 Sep

Stopped by a blogger friend of mine to see what was new with her and she had a fabulous post titled “Put that in your Purse“. Jessica runs a fabulous blog titles: My Time as Mom. Now, I am not a mom yet, but I liked the idea so much that I decided to dig through my very unorganized purse to see what my MUST haves were! I am not including to usual things like check book, wallet. etc.. (I did find my tiffany bracelet in a hidden pocket, WAHOO!)

10. Aleve – This is my go to medicine! Perfect for cramps or headaches!

9. Smell Goods – I always give a little spritz before I head into work, before a meeting, or grocery store.

8. My glasses case – Never know when you need to take them off!

7. Business cards – You may run into someone new or someone old! I have professional work business cards, but I like to hand out my fun personalized ones!

6. A little scratch pad of paper – Sometimes I just want to doodle.

5. Hair clips or pony tail holder – I have Hair Gone Wild. I freak if I cant find a hair tie so every time I find one laying around I throw it in my purse!

4. Mints or pack of gum – Have to keep your mouth so fresh and so clean clean!

3. Mini Hand Sanitize – Nothing worse then touching some unknown object and you cant get to the sink!

2. Shiny lipgloss – Nothing expensive because I ALWAYS lose them! As my Grandma says, but not a quote “A girl should always have a little lipstick on!”

1. A Black Sharpie – You would be surprised how many times I have pulled out my sharpie to save the day!

There is not anything that out of the ordinary on my top 10 list. How about yours – what is your top ten?

Thankful Thursday

20 Sep

This morning I woke after having a terrible dream and it instantly put my in a sad/grouchy mood. We were up earlier than usual, but we still both needed to get into the shower. I usually take second shift, but being grouchy I jumped out of bed and told the hubs that he could wait until I was done. (BAM)

After my extremely hot shower I jumped back into bed with the hubs and pup to snuggle for a few minutes. Lightening and thunder started and I knew that I had to get the dog out before the rain started pouring down. WE BOTH (me and the dog) ended up standing outside while he took care of business. The pup is scared of the thunder. The hubs shouted over the fence good-bye, I blew a kiss and shouted I love you!

Dressed, did my hair, filled my coffee and drove into work. As I got settled I noticed a missed call and text from the hubs. Slightly annoyed because I was a few minutes late and just taking my coat off I read the text before calling back.

“Last night was fun and relaxing. The way it should be” – this made me smile.

Last night we did house projects for our new home and then went to dinner. It was a very delicious dinner. I also had one beer and he had two. We talked about work, our careers, the new house, vacations, and of course how much we love our puppy.

That is what I am thankful for this morning. I am thankful for having a husband who no matter how grouchy I am he will still say I love you and give me a kiss. He will always send a text to say hello or to say have a good day.

It is easy to wake up on the wrong side of the bed. But if you stop to think of all the positive things in your life it will soon turn around!

Now – what are you thankful for today!?
